The Birthday Present Cake

So, I had created a Birthday Present Cake for my own birthday... a girlfriend of mine saw it and said that she wanted the same thing for her sister's birthday! Okay, I said... What colors and type of cake do you want....

So, I set out to create the below white cake, with rasberry filling and red fondant with a gumpaste loopy bow! I made this better than my own... As I make more cakes, I perfect my skills!

Thanks for reading my blog and KEEP THE CAKE ORDERS COMING!

Topsy Turvey Over the Hill Skeleton Cake

So.... by now you know that my answer is always going to be "Sure, I can do that!" With that said... I took a call from a gal that I went to HS with some 20+ years ago, asking if I could make an Over the Hill cake for her husbands 50th Birthday.... My standard answers applies here.... :)

So, I asked some standard questions... with her answers I decided that since he LOVED fishing... and she LOVES Halloween and his birthday is this weekend... (one week before Halloween) I would create a Topsy Turvy Over the Hill Skeleton Cake.... The skeletons would be fishing for skeleton fish... really dark....

So my journey began... I made 3 - 10x2" cakes, 3 - 8x2" cakes and 3 - 6x2" cakes.... They wanted banana cake with banana filling... YUMMY!

I learned on this journey that I would not use the above combination in cake sizes again.... I would use larger than 10 and larger than 8 so that there is more stability... I also learned alot about my fondant skills... I had, on the second layer whats referred to in the baking world as "Elephant Skin"... I was horrified.... BUT.... this cake is dark and supposed to be beat up looking... so it actually worked to my advantage....

This cake was fun.... BUT... I did learn a lot of do's, don't's and changes.... : )

Take a look and let me know what you think....

The Barbie Cake for Sarah

Well it's 5:45am on Friday, October 22, 2010 and I can't keep the tears from flowing. I am so thankful for what God is doing in my life... I don't understand most of it... but that's His buisness. Not mine!

So I did the Monkey Cake for my nephew last weekend and posted pics on my Facebook page and I later received a text about doing an Over the Hill cake for a gal I went to HS with... "Sure I can do It!" is my response... I than get another text message from a fellow co-worker asking if I could do a Barbie Cake for her daughter.... "Sure I can do it!", again is my response... Not realizing that I already had a cake to do for a friend.... :) I Love the Lord with ALL of my heart!

Thankfully, Angela needs her cake on Friday, Dawn needs her cake on Saturday and Michelle needs her cake on Sunday! Man, this is FUN!

So... I just finished the Barbie Cake for Sarah... Please take a look and let me know what you think....

Thanks for all of your support and the orders for cakes!!! Keep them coming!!! :)

Monkey Business

So.... My nephew turned 26th on the 16th of October and he LOVES monkies.... My mother in law asked me if I could create a Monkey Cake for his birthday... My answer of course is ALWAYS.... "SURE"
I haven't completely learned... LOL

So I set out to create a monkey.... It was a lot of fun. I made a chocolate cake, banana filling (cause that's what monkies like, right?) and chocolate buttercream icing....

Let me know what you think.....

Anniversay Cake

My sister in law and her husband Mike celebrated 27 years of marriage yesterday! I asked her what her favorite cake was... she couldn't give me an answer... we finally decided on banana with buttercream filling and icing.... she did know what colors she wanted.... Purple and Blue.... of the dark variation!!! :) So.... I made her cake.... I'm getting really good at smoothing out the buttercream icing.... My OCD is coming out when smoothing frosting.... LOL

Take a look and let me know what you think....

The Pumpkin Cake

So.... the second night in class we had to decorate a cake... I chose to do a pumpkin for fall and halloween. I made a chocolate cake with fresh raspberry filling. It was very tasty. I've also been working on modifing my frosting. I used equal parts vanilla and butter flavoring to one part almond extract. Still too much almond... I'm getting better at laying the buttercream icing on the cake and smoothing it out....

See for yourself....
